Simultaneous MMC readout using a tailored μMUX based readout system

Magnetic microcalorimeters (MMCs) are cryogenic, energy-dispersive single-particle detectors providing excellent energy resolution, intrinsically fast signal rise time, quantum efficiency close to 100%, large dynamic range as well almost ideal linear response. One of the remaining challenges be overcome ultimately allow for utilization large-scale MMC based detector arrays with thousands millions individual pixels is realization a SQUID multiplexing technique particularly tailored readout. Within this context, we report on first demonstration frequency-division multiplexed readout an array using both, custom microwave multiplexer dedicated software-defined radio (SDR) electronics. We successfully performed simultaneous up eight channels, each monitoring two pixels. show that shape not changed compared dc-SQUID and similar values resolution can obtained. Nevertheless, observed influence internal quality factor resonators used frequency encoding affects co-added sum spectrum.
